Check the medicine
Check the pharmacy behind the label
Find the actual pharmacy, then look beyond the badge on a website.
Licence and registration rules as of September 26, 2026.
Get the full pharmacy name
FDA (Food and Drug Administration) identifies an information gap for online buyers of compounded medicine: they may not know the maker's business name. Compounded means made to order.
Ask which pharmacy makes the product and which pharmacy sends it. Keep the names as written, rather than just the name of the online care service.
FDA has reported false pharmacy names on compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide labels. Some labels named pharmacies that did not exist; other pharmacies named on labels had never made that product.
Check the state record
A pharmacy gets its licence from a state pharmacy board. FDA has a page linking to the state licence searches.
Open the state pharmacy board's licence search through the FDA link below. Look for the pharmacy's full name. An online pharmacy absent from your state’s records is one FDA advises you to avoid. A listing confirms that the pharmacy may operate, but cannot establish proper handling of each prescription.
Most states also require a pharmacy based elsewhere to hold permission before shipping into the patient's state. The name of that permission varies.
A badge answers a smaller question
A government FDA registration listing does not grant the product FDA approval. Accreditation means an outside organisation checks a pharmacy against quality standards. It is separate from the state's permission to operate.
One check for pharmacies that make medicine to order is called PCAB accreditation. An outside organisation called ACHC runs it. It checks whether the pharmacy follows national standards for making medicine. It does not test every group of medicines made together or judge whether treatment helped a patient.
Ask which record supports the claim you are reading. Check the state's permission, any outside quality check, and the medicine's FDA approval separately.
